Traverse (English)

The foundation ‘Stichting Maatschappelijke Opvang Midden-Brabant Traverse’ came into being in 1996, when De Klinkert merged with Huize Poels. Traverse’s facilities are aimed at taking care of homeless people and preventing others from becoming homeless.

The latter is done, for example, within the so-called ‘Jongerenpension’ (Youth Hostel). There, young people between 16 and 23 years of age are offered a course which consists of both schooling and work, and where they receive help in getting their lives structured. The living areas that are situated at the Reitse Hoevenstraat are a continuation of De Klinkert. On the same site are apartments for adults who should be able to live independently again after a year. Another element is the so-called ‘Maatzorg’, where homeless people who are suffering from physical ailments are taken care of. Homeless people dealing with addictions and psychiatric problems live at the Sociaal Pension in the Fabriekstraat. People who are in a crisis situation can turn to the Crisisopvang, located at the Gasthuisring, where they can find rest and get their lives back in order. The Dienstencentrum, which offers practical help and has a special room for the use of substances, is located here too. Moreover, there are also sheltered accommodations, where former resident clients live who still have access to Traverse’s facilities. Traverse also has a team of ambulant workers who provide counselling to addicts who live on their own. An Intervention team and housing corporations work together to prevent people from getting evicted from their homes. The Direkshon department helps Antillean young people with finding a place in society.
