Data science (JADS)

The Jheronimus Academy of Data Science (JADS) is a joint initiative by Tilburg University, the Eindhoven University of Technology, the local ’s Hertogenbosch council and the provincial North-Brabant council. It is housed in the former Mariënburg monastery in ’s Hertogenbosch, offers a variety of study programs and incorporates several data science startups. It was officially inaugurated by Queen Máxima (picture, together with Tiu-president Koen Becking) on 1 December 2016.

The Data Science Bachelor’s program kicked off in September 2016, followed by several Master’s programs, in the Mariënburg venue as well as on Tilburg and Eindhoven locations. With this setup, JADS is one of the biggest data science programs in Europe. Tilburg University is involved because it has wide-ranging data science knowledge, not only knowledge of “hard” domains such as datamining, artificial intelligence and analytics, but also of their legal and ethical aspects. This knowledge has been brought together in the Data Science Center Tilburg, involving four Tilburg faculties.
